Sustainability at Eberwhite

Hi all! Cara, from the PTO :) EBW has decades of sustainability leadership for the AAPS community thanks to the work of the community over the years. I’ve set some goals for all of us for this year which I think we can reach if we work together.

  1. Continue our place as one of the 2 chosen AAPS pilot composting programs, composting our lunch scraps and trays, and collecting compost from classrooms which decreases our organic food waste by >90%. Other schools are trying to compost now!

  2. Continue to bring your plastic film to the front of the school for recycling. We will aim for at least 1000 lbs again to get another Trex bench. Please bring your plastic film (plastic bags, wrap, bubble wrap, etc) NO bubble mailers. See a complete list here. (We just reached our goal for last year and are picking out a bench right now!)

  3. Continue standard recycling with the leadership and work of our students.

  4. Continue nature-based field trips and ecology, nature, and sustainability curriculum.

  5. Start a gardening group to include parents and students. This group will meet one day in Summer, Spring, and Fall to maintain our native prairie and rain gardens - a chance to learn about invasive and native species.

  6. Continue to care for the Eberwhite woods (Woodchip Day!) and enjoy it as much as we can!

  7. Continue to use energy friendly bulbs, water stations, cleaning wipes, and compostable plates, cups, and napkins where possible.

  8. Limit most Eberwhite events to water refilling stations for water bottles to decrease waste.

  9. Continue to host an Earth day for the Eberwhite community to learn and play! Come join us!
